Happy (almost) New Year!!

  • 31st Dec, 2009 at 10:30 AM
Tis the season for New Year's Resolutions... Thought I'd share a couple of my fandom-related ones.

Resolution #1. I always set a writing goal, and I always way outdo it. This year, I thought I'd set it much higher to see if I rise to the occasion. The goal:

- Finish my original Big Bang idea (this will likely be a fairly long story, too)

- Three episode tags (to go along with another resolution I'll mention below). I've got vague ideas already for a couple of them...

- At least one challenge response over at Sheppard H/C (like I can stay away from any of those challenges...Ha!)

- One completely new story that I haven't already started (and my hyperactive muse has been flinging ideas at me like crazy lately!)

- Original fic: this year, I'm setting down the goal to work on one of my original fic ideas. I'm not going to make myself finish it this year, but I've got to at least venture out of my SGA comfort zone a little and give this a shot. I may or may not post anything on my original fic here, but it's part of my writing resolution.

Resolution #2. I have said for months now that I want to rewatch all the SGA episodes, and I've only gotten through disc 1 of season 1. Also, I got Seasons 1-4 of Supernatural for Christmas. Who says resolutions have to be painful?

- Rewatch all of SGA, beginning to end! (Which will hopefully spawn ideas for my episode tag challenge above)

- Rewatch all of Supernatural, seasons 1 thru 4 and the eps of Season 5 I've DVR'd!

Sounds like 2010 could be a fun-filled, SGA-filled, Supernatural-filled year for me!! Woo!

Alone in Your Mind by James (NC-17)

  • 31st Dec, 2009 at 11:35 AM
Rec Category: McKay/Sheppard/Beckett
Pairing: McKay/Sheppard, McKay/Sheppard/Beckett
Category: First Time (First Time for Threesome Only; McShep Established Relationship)
Warning: Slash
Author on LJ: James' LJ Accounts
Author's Website: Gila's Cave
Link: Alone in Your Mind

Why This Must Be Read: Sorry it's so late, but I will say that this is a great fic to end out the year. This one starts out being a primarily Carson-centric fic with a background McShep pairing with a noticeable helping of pining!Carson (for Rodney.) Carson gets an ancient maintenance device (which he names "Murdoc")attached to his arm which tells him how to fix the city and which won't come off. Ever. This leads to some rather intriguing "Carson fixing the city and going rather crazy in the process" and further leads to "Carson finds ZPMs." ZPMs allow the Atlanteans to travel back to Earth but Carson, by virtue of the bracelet becoming Atlantis' maintenance crew, is unable to leave. Rodney and John end up staying on Atlantis and you know the pairing, but I'm going to leave the rest of the details up to you to discover. I highly recommend this fic on all fronts: interesting plot, humorous and serious moments and a seriously well written McKay/Sheppard/Beckett threesome dynamic. Also this one is a fairly substantial length, so perfect reading for while you're lazing off that hangover tomorrow!

(Happy New Year to all of my New Year celebrating Stargaters and I look forward to reccing new and interesting things in 2010!)
I'm searching for that one sentient Atlantis story where the different subroutines (security, life support etc.) and also the Jumpers talk with each other and they all have a crush on Rodney. At one time one subroutine sacrifices it's last energy to save Rodney from an explosion with a force field. I'm sure just about everyone knows this story, any help? Thanks!
The bad news are I've never had so many things to pay and so little money. I own the bank more than ever in my life, all thanks to the Christmas shopping and next year I'll have more things to pay like uni and transport to uni. The good news is that rent is going to have a negative raise. Which means it's going to get lower. I still need to hear from the landlord to see what he's going to do, but having no raise is already BIG, I'm not picky.

Other bad news is that my sister got fired for no reason whatsoever. She wasn't even a registered worker at the school and I'm still to see if they are going to pay her rights because of that. They simply, out of the blue, fired her. No reason given, nothing... The good news is that my mom spoke to our former landlord, who knows a LOT of people in the city and he's going to arrange a legal sue totally free of charge. My mom also went to the ministry of work and the judge was bafled to hear that a big school like Objetivo (one of the biggest private school franchises in the country) has unregitered workers. BIG FISH for them, so the school is probably going to have some surprise visit from them as well. All in all, sweet, sweet revenge is going to come and let's hope my sis can receive her rights in the end of all this.

Also, today lottery is going to pay the biggest prize yet and I still have to play. I can see how I'm going to regret leaving it for the last day. The lines yesterday were going around the block. I don't really need the full prize, for so many zeroes leave my head spinning. Half percent of that is more than enough to settle not only my life, but also my family's. Can you imagine having $120,000,000.00 in your bank account? I can't. But then I'll be able to go to any con my heart desires and finally meet JF. I'll probably be able to fund a whole new season of SGA and hire my own writers, which will be all the whumpers I know of. Yes, this is what I'm going to do if I win this lottery. xD

Transient Associations by Holdouttrout (G)

Rec Category: Samantha Carter
Pairing: Sam/Jack

Why This Must Be Read: Sam, on alien drugs, thinking she's psychic... A short, fun read.
It is that time of year again. As we always do, we will be making some changes at the first of the year. Unlike most years, these will be some drastic changes. So PLEASE READ.

First the categories:

Moving to 'Other':

Character

Aidan Ford
Radek Zelenka
Jonas Quinn
Vala Mal Doran

(This is the first year I have ever moved character categories to the 'other' category. Times they are a changing!)

Pairing

Carson Beckett/Rodney McKay
Rodney McKay/Elizabeth Weir
Ronon Dex/Teyla Emmagan
Sora/Teyla Emmagan
Elizabeth Weir/Teyla Emmagan
Samantha Carter/Vala Mal Doran
John Sheppard/Samantha Carter

Adding:

Character

Evan Lorne

Link to sign up for Lorne: Evan Lorne

Fandom

Stargate: Universe

Link to sign up for SGU: Stargate: Universe

*-*-*

New Fandom...

We will be adding a Stargate: Universe category. At this time, there will only be the one category. If you sign up to rec for it, please realize you can rec ANY FIC that is based in Stargate: Universe. (Please realize that I am talking about the show and not the universe of Stargate as a whole. I don't want any SG-1 or Atlantis-centric fics in this category.)

*-*-*

New volunteering format...

Per the request of my volunteers, we will be working things a bit differently here. Our volunteers will work by fandom now. We will have a memories and tagging volunteer for Stargate SG-1, one for Stargate Atlantis, and one for Stargate Universe. Our volunteers are:

Tagging

[info]hsapiens-- Stargate SG-1
[info]darsynia-- Stargate Atlantis
[info]phrenitis-- Stargate Universe

Memories

[info]thenightsfall-- Stargate SG-1
[info]c425cc33-- Stargate Atlantis
[info]blueorchid26-- Stargate Universe

(Please remember that 'Memories' is the only one that has a deadline, which is the end of the month. There is no deadline for when a volunteer tags an entry. Never has been.)

*-*-*

New Format...

In switching up how the volunteers work, we've also had to change the rec'cing format. (THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!!)

New format is as follows:

Subject Line: Title by Author's Name (Rating)
Absolutely NO HTML in the subject line! If you do, you will be asked to remove it before it is put into memories.

Body:

Show: (Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, or Stargate Universe) You must pick one and only one. If there is more than one show, pick the one that is most predominant. This is solely to help our volunteers, but is very important!!!!!!

Rec Category: (This is the category that you signed up to rec.)
Characters: (MAIN characters only!)
Pairing: (MAIN pairing only. If there is no pairing, skip this line.)
Het/Slash/Gen: (Pick one... THIS IS REQUIRED!)
Warning: (ie Character Death, Spoilers... this is required as well)

Volunteering to Rec

For years now, [info]medie has gone through all the categories at the end of the month only to find that hardly anyone has volunteered. She puts out a reminder post, and then people rush to rec because that way they choose what, when, and how they get to rec. Thing is, [info]medie has a full time job. She has other obligations on LJ, in her OL, and in her RL that do not include [info]stargateficrec. There have been times when she will go through categories clear through the second week of the month. Why? Because she knows the VALUE of having categories rec'ced. There is no comm without the rec'cers. People have to volunteer, but people should know that we put up the rec'cer list at the beginning of the month and should know A) how to get to it because there is a link on the userpage and B) when to rec, which is BEFORE the end of the month.

Here is it again to bookmark if you want: Volunteer to be a Rec'cer

We are NOT changing the way people volunteer to rec. If you want to rec a category, go to the link on the userpage, click on it, click a main category, and then click a Rec Category, and then send a comment. It's easy!!!!

Out of respect for [info]medie, we ARE changing the 'when' portion of her obligation. She will go through the categories at the end of the month. She'll get together a list of rec'cers, and I'll put it up on the comm. She will then check the categories again on the 3rd and submit anyone else who has signed up. I will amend the post and that will be it. She won't go through it again until the end of the month.

There will be ONE reminder post sent out on the 29th of the month. In that post, there will be a link to the volunteer page. That way, it will show up on your flist as well. Easy squeezy. [info]phrenitis will be putting up that post for us.

*-*-*

Lastly... (AND THIS IS A MUST!!!!!!)

No one is to post more than two recs on the last two days of the month. There are at least 28 days in every month, and while I know RL can be a pain in the rump, you should have at least one, two, maybe three days before the last two of the month to post recs. If you aren't going to get them done before those last two days, send me an email on one of those days and we'll see if we can't move you to the next month. You'll have all your recs ready and can easily get them posted throughout the next month. My email addy is coltsgrrl @ hotmail.com (take out the spaces of course)

We have been inundating people's flists with recs on these last two days. I'm not talking five or six recs... I'm talking twenty or so of them on those days. If three people wait and post on those days... that's twelve recs. And while that may not be much for some, it is for most.

Look at it this way, if three or four people do it, the fics you cared enough about to rec get lost in the mass of entries that are posted on that day. People start skimming after one or two, and it does little good to rec someone's story if it's going to get lost in the shuffle. These stories mean enough to you to rec them, then allow them to shine in the spotlight!

I will be amending the userpage and FAQ soon. For now, please reference this post for how to format your recs starting 01/01/10. (Binary day!)

*-*-*

And there you go... All the fun and new changes for 2010! Hope you all have a great and happy New Year. If you go out to party, PLEASE don't drive home inebriated. If you aren't inebriated and you drive home, please do so carefully!

New Sheppard fic - 38 Minutes tag

  • 30th Dec, 2009 at 2:22 PM
This might be sort of marginal on the H/C, but I figured I'd post a link to it here since it's a "38 Minutes" tag and deals with Sheppard's recovery from the bug thing (although that's not really the main plot, it's a recurring element through the first 2/3 or so of the story).

Vote for Sexiest Geek at Wired.com

  • 30th Dec, 2009 at 6:10 PM

Okay, folks, nothing else to do but mindlessly send out tweets and waiting for New Year's Eve, so take a moment to toodle over to

http://www.wired.com/underwire/2009/12/sexy-geeks-2009

and, if you're amenable, vote for David Hewlett as Sexiest Geek. Now, just  noticed he's listed twice. So, find the one with the highest count (probably with the shot of him as McKay, not as himself) and click :)

Rodney/Ronon Marriage of Convenience

  • 30th Dec, 2009 at 3:20 PM
I could've sworn I had this one saved, but...

Rodney and Ronon are married for some reason (not because they actually wanted to get married) and for some reason divorce isn't an option.  Ronon takes his job as husband seriously and slowly Rodney falls in love with him.

I know there aren't many details here, but I'm hoping R/R MoC fic is rare enough that there's just the one.

Thanks!

John is a Centaur

  • 30th Dec, 2009 at 4:57 PM
Looking for the fic where John is a Centaur. The one scene that really sticks out is John is injured off world and Rodney talks him through the stargate. John collapses on the other side and has to have surgery in the gateroom.

I would love to find this story again. Thanks!

Thanks!
